The Adriatic Sea is among the cleanest seas in the world, and the government of the Republic of Croatia supports numerous research projects aimed at the conservation of this natural heritage. Apart from the cleanliness of the sea, another important characteristic is the uniqueness of the biology and terrain of the coastal area, which is exhibited in the great number of plant and animal species, particularly the large number of endemic species.
Banje beach, Dubrovnik
Banje beach is well located and the most famous Dubrovnik pebble beach with a beautiful view to the Old town. It is a place to see and to be seen, where the rich and beautiful come to get some tan and the rest of the world comes to watch.
Orebic is situated on Peljesac peninsula, about 2 hours and 30 minutes north of Dubrovnik. It is the most known summer resort on southern coast of Peljesac. Orebic has some beautiful long sandy beaches and small bays with crystal clear water. The most delightful Orebic beach is Trstenica, a pebbly and sandy bay just a twenty-minute stroll east from the ferry terminal and marina. It is a long, about 1 km, beach, highly recommended for children and there are cafes and bars for refreshment. It has a naturist section of the beach which is pebble. Shy beginners can hide in nearby rocks.
Trstenica beach, Orebic - Peljesac
The beaches on Island of Hvar are generally rocky - pebble, situated in bays, surrounded by pine forests. There are also several natural sandy beaches, mostly on the north side of the island due to fact that north winds ("bura") and sea waves are stronger then south waves and wind ("jugo"). Pebbles in pebble beaches are also mostly smaller in the bays on the north side beaches, and therefore more suitable for children. The shallow sandy beaches in deep bays can be found near Jelsa, in bay "Mlaska" near Sucuraj on the north side, and exceptionally on the south side of the island in beach "Cesminica" in Sucuraj.
